Hypothesis of the Research

In this research, the statistical hypotheses will be developed. The hypotheses will compare the performance of the experimental and control classes. The main objective is to determine whether the intervention significantly enhances writing skills.

1. Null Hypothesis (𝑯𝟎):

The null hypothesis states that there is no significant statistical difference in the writing skills for designing posters between the control and experimental classes after the intervention.
𝐻0: 𝜇1 = 𝜇2
Where 𝜇1 represents the mean of the writing score in the experimental class, and 𝜇2 represents the mean of the writing score in the control class. This hypothesis, therefore, reflects that using short animated videos does not significantly affect the students' writing skills when designing posters.

2. Alternative Hypothesis (𝐇𝟏):
Therefore, the alternative hypothesis would be that the statistical significance in the difference in the writing skills in designing posters between the control and experimental classes is significant after intervention.
𝐻1: 𝜇1 ≠ 𝜇2
This hypothesis makes it clear that with short animated videos, there is an effective improvement in students' abilities in designing posters; hence, there would be differences between the experimental and control classes.
These hypotheses will then be verified through statistical analyses, either the Independent Samples t-Test if the data is normally distributed, or the Mann-Whitney U Test in cases of no normality. The significance level will be set at 𝛼 = 0.05, which, which means that if the obtained p-value is less than 0.05, the null hypothesis will be rejected in favor of the alternative hypothesis.

Abstract

This study analyzes the language employed by Kompas, Republika, Media Indonesia, and Jawa Pos regarding the relocation of Indonesia’s capital city, focusing on attitude, graduation, and engagement. Eight online texts were analyzed using discourse analysis. This paper used systemic functional linguistics as a tool to analyze the texts. The findings revealed a predominance of positive attitude data (67.2% positive, 32.8% negative), predominantly heterogloss in engagement (91.8% heterogloss, 8.2% monogloss), and a majority of raising/sharpening graduation data (75.1% raising/sharpening, 24.9% lowering/softening). This disparity between positive and negative appraisal data signifies significant and contentious issues the government, community leaders, and the general public face concerning the capital city’s relocation. The results of news outlets analysis demonstrated how ideological orientations shape the construction of social and political values, influencing public beliefs and perceptions of the capital relocation project in Indonesia.

1. Definition of English Syntax

Syntax is a branch of linguistics that studies the rules and principles for constructing sentences in a language. In the context of English, syntax refers to how words are arranged to form meaningful sentences according to specific grammatical rules.

In simple terms: English syntax is about sentence structure—how words combine to create phrases, clauses, and full sentences that make sense in English.
