State of the art, Gap, novelty dan contribution

Definisi dan Fungsi State of the Art
State of the art penelitian merujuk pada pemetaan komprehensif terhadap seluruh pengetahuan mutakhir yang telah dihasilkan oleh peneliti-peneliti sebelumnya dalam suatu bidang spesifik (Rahardjo, 2021). Ini bukan sekadar daftar pustaka, melainkan ulasan kritis yang menunjukkan teori, metode, dan temuan paling relevan dari literatur yang ada. Fungsi utamanya adalah untuk memosisikan penelitian baru dalam peta keilmuan yang sudah dikenal, sehingga pembaca dapat melihat dengan jelas “di mana” penelitian tersebut berada dibandingkan dengan studi-studi terdahulu. State of the art yang baik akan mengungkapkan apa yang sudah diketahui secara meyakinkan dan di mana letak ketidakpastian atau keterbatasan masih tersisa (Silalahi, 2015). Dengan demikian, ia menjadi fondasi untuk menemukan research gap.

Memahami Research Gap sebagai Kekosongan
Research gap adalah celah, kekosongan, atau pertanyaan yang belum terjawab secara memadai dalam literatur ilmiah yang ada, yang muncul setelah dilakukan analisis mendalam terhadap state of the art (Rahardjo, 2021). Celah ini bisa berupa inkonsistensi hasil antarpeneliti, fenomena lapangan yang belum tersentuh teori, atau populasi yang belum pernah diteliti. Menemukan research gap berarti mengidentifikasi “potongan puzzle yang hilang” yang memberikan alasan logis mengapa penelitian baru harus dilakukan sekarang. Seperti dijelaskan oleh Miles (dalam Rahardjo, 2021), terdapat beragam jenis gap, seperti empirical gap (kurang bukti empiris) atau theoretical gap (teori tidak sesuai fakta). Tanpa research gap yang jelas, sebuah penelitian berisiko menjadi replikasi tak bermakna atau kehilangan urgensi akademiknya.
